This is Sam. They started their volunteer journey at Out Youth four years ago. Say hello, Sam.

Sam says hello.

Now that the introductions are out of the way, let’s take a look at Sam’s volunteer journey.

Remember: This is just an example. Yours will look completely different, so get creative!

Check our Voly.org page for current opportunities

Out Youth is proud to use Voly.org, a program of VolunteerNow, to post and manage volunteer opportunities.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

For most of our volunteer opportunities we have no age requirement.

If you are under the age of 18, we may need you to have a parent or guardian give their consent for you to participate in specific opportunities. In those cases, we will make that requirement clear on the volunteer sign up page.

Do I get to volunteer directly with the youth?

We know that the vast majority of people who want to volunteer at Out Youth want to work directly with our youth.

There are several opportunities during the year for volunteers to interact with our youth including our annual Youth Prom and community events like the PRIDE Parade.

Can I complete my community service hours at Out Youth?

Unfortunately, Out Youth does not currently have the capacity to serve as a site for those who need to complete community service hours.

Will I have to complete a background check?

If you are going to volunteer in a position where you will interact with youth, you will be required to complete a background check.

What kind of orientation and training will I receive?

The type and extent of required orientations and trainings will depend on your volunteer duties.

Any orientation or training requirements will be made clear on volunteer position descriptions.
