Please note that our Drop-In Center Volunteer Application is currently closed. We will begin accepting new volunteer applications in the fall.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

To volunteer as a Drop-In Center volunteer, you must be over the age of 22.

For most of our volunteer opportunities we have no age requirement.

If you are under the age of 18, we may need you to have a parent or guardian give their consent for you to participate in specific opportunities. In those cases, we will make that requirement clear on the volunteer sign up page.

Do I get to volunteer directly with the youth?

We know that the vast majority of people who want to volunteer at Out Youth want to work directly with our youth.

There are several opportunities during the year for volunteers to interact with our youth including leading a programming session, or our annual Youth Prom and community events like the PRIDE Parade.

To submit a programming proposal please fill out this Google Form.

Can I complete my community service hours at Out Youth?

If you are a youth (age 12-18) and would like to receive community service hours for your school requirement, please contact Adrian Osella ( to coordinate.

Will I have to complete a background check?

If you are going to volunteer in a position where you will interact alone with youth, you will be required to complete a background check.

A background check is not required for programming session leaders, as programming is supervised by Out Youth Drop-In volunteers.

What kind of orientation and training will I receive?

The type and extent of required orientations and trainings will depend on your volunteer duties.

Any orientation or training requirements will be made clear on volunteer position descriptions.

We understand that our volunteer opportunities may not be what you had in mind, but we want you to know that we are open to creating a volunteer experience for you.

Please contact Briona Jenkins at if you are interested in an opportunity that is not be listed on our site so that she can collaborate with you.
