Youth Development & Community Engagement Coordinator

Required hours

Sundays - 2 to 9 p.m.

Tuesdays - 12 to 8 p.m.

Wednesdays - 1 to 9 p.m.

Remainder of hours to be scheduled in collaboration with supervisor.



Ensures that current and prospective clients have equal opportunity to develop skills and traits that will help them achieve their goals while increasing their feeling of community and belonging.



Youth Development

  • Drop-in center oversight

    • Fosters a sense of group cohesion, safety, and acceptance for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12-23 within the Drop-in Center.

    • Ensures new clients are greeted warmly, feel integrated into the Out Youth family, and leave eager to return.

    • Assists with the recruitment, orientation, supervision, and retention of Client Advocate volunteers and Drop-in center interns.

    • Develops, strengthens, and maintains partnerships with individuals and organizations in Central Texas to provide developmentally-appropriate programming for youth ages 12-18 and 18-23.

    • Facilitates the quarterly review and update process of our community norms.

    • Manages food and supplies for the Drop-in Center.

  • Leadership development

    • Works with established and aspiring youth leaders to develop youth-led programming.

    • Identifies promising youth leaders and collaborates with other staff members to connect these youth with internal and external leadership opportunities.

  • Social and emotional development

    • Collaborates with other staff members to observe, intervene, and support the social and emotional development of LGBTQ+ youth.

    • Utilizes restorative justice principles to interrupt and repair behaviors of clients that negatively impact the safety and integrity of the Drop-in Center.


Community Engagement

  • Leads outreach to LGBTQ+ youth and their families who are underserved by the Drop-in center and other programs and collaborates with other staff members to determine what accommodations can be made to facilitate improved access and support.

  • Manages and delegates all incoming inquiries to ensure community members and those requesting trainings receive timely responses.

  • In collaboration with the Operations & Programs Director, develops a comprehensive marketing and outreach plan to ensure current clients remain engaged and informed about available programs and services.

  • Coordinating offsite tabling and volunteering opportunities for clients and volunteers.


Other duties as assigned

  • Including, but not limited to: administrative duties, community events, organization events, etc.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with young people ages 12-23.

  • Ability to work creatively and effectively with youth with intersectional identities and experiences.

  • Knowledgeable about adolescent development, gender identity, sexuality, as well as systems of privilege, power, and oppression.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Self-directed; can handle multiple tasks with minimum direction .

  • Strong sense of empathy.

  • Flexibility and teamwork mentality a must.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Experience working directly with LGBTQ+ populations

  • Experience working with historically disenfranchised communities

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or American Sign Language)

  • Proven experience with community engagement and education

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health issues

  • Experience with restorative justice practices
