Out Youth’s Texas GSA Network is seeking GSA Registration Drive Volunteers!

Position Title:

Texas GSA Network Registration Drive Volunteer

Purpose:

Volunteers are needed to call middle school and high school social workers and guidance counselors across Texas in order to:

  • Educate GSA faculty advisors, and social workers and guidance counselors at schools without a GSA, on how the Texas GSA Network can be of service to them

  • Gather and report on the contact information for faculty advisors and student leaders of GSAs across the state as well as information about how each GSA functions

  • Learn about their schools’ student-led GSA clubs (Gay-Straight Alliances or Gender & Sexualities Alliances)

  • Register GSAs with the Texas GSA Network, all while respecting and ensuring student, faculty and school privacy

Background:

Out Youth's Texas GSA Network connects and empowers youth leaders statewide so they can fearlessly be themselves while making schools safer for everyone. Research has shown that the presence of GSA clubs in schools not only has many positive effects on LGBTQIA2+ students, but all youth in schools with GSAs benefit from a learning environment where bigotry is unacceptable. Helping the Texas GSA Network gather information on, register and disseminate information to GSAs in middle and high schools across the state not only models for young LGBTQIA2+ folks that there are adults throughout Texas dedicated to equality for people of all genders and sexual orientations, but also contributes to vital data collection that can be used to impress upon parents, school districts, and lawmakers the numerous benefits of supporting GSAs.
