Title: Clinical Social Worker

Reports to: Clinical & Social Services Director


The clinical social worker will responsible for training and oversight of social work interns to complete some of the essential functions of the department. The clinical social worker will also provide program oversight, counseling, facilitation of support groups,  and special events on behalf of Transgender Wellness, a program of Out Youth, for transgender and non-binary identified adults. The clinical social worker will also be responsible for managing the continuum of care for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults ages 12 - 23 who present at the Out Youth drop-in center.

Position type: Full-Time, Exempt

Essential Functions:

  • Provide supervision of graduate student social work interns providing services for clients of Out Youth and/or Transgender Wellness.

  • Oversee services for Kind’s Gender Care Clinic, offered by Texas Health Action. Manage communication to Kind Clinic patients regarding behavioral support services offered by Transgender Wellness, a program of Out Youth.

  • Provide individual psychotherapy, including assessment, diagnosis (using the DSM-5), and treatment planning, to support the mental health and well-being of transgender adult clients.

  • Co-facilitate at least one weekly open support group for transgender and non-binary adults. Provide additional psycho-educational support groups and special events as needed to meet the needs of this population.

  • Oversee and/or provide case management and/or advocacy services, including support for name and sex gender marker changes, to address the bio-psycho-social needs of patients referred from the Kind Clinic.

  • Assist with program management and oversight for the peer adult mentoring program under the Transgender Wellness umbrella.

  • Coordinate activities related to providing education to mental health and medical professionals about culturally responsive care for the trans community as part of the Central Texas Transgender Health Coalition.

  • Collaborate with the Youth Development Coordinator to best support the drop-in center from a mental health and wellbeing perspective, including suggestions for programming and ensuring onsite support.

  • Manage the intake process for youth ages 12 - 18 who attend the drop-in center and identify youth who may benefit from referrals, both internal and external, to support biopsychosocial wellbeing.  

  • Prepare and submit regular and timely documentation of services as required by funders and the Clinical Director.

  • Perform other activities and duties as directed by the Clinical Director, including but not limited to providing additional clinical or social services.

  • Arrange and receive clinical supervision as required by licensure, if applicable.


Evening and weekend hours are required. This position requires the Clinical Social Worker to provide services onsite at Out Youth on Tuesdays and Sundays from (at minimum) 4:00 - 9:00 PM. Some evening hours may also be required on Wednesdays. Additional scheduled hours would be determined at the discretion of the Clinical Social Worker and the clinical director. Further administrative and/or training hours will be required to complete documentation and ensure consistency of care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), working toward LCSW.  

  • Cultural competence with the LGBTQIA+ community.

  • Ability to work effectively with clients from a variety of racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, and religious backgrounds.

  • Knowledgeable about gender identity, sexuality, as well as systems of privilege and oppression.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with minimum direction and to meet deadlines.

  • Must be conscientious and detail oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

  • 3 or more years of counseling or social service experience.

  • Experience providing supervision to graduate-level social work interns.

  • Experience collaborating with personnel in medical settings and/or community agencies.

  • Experience planning and facilitating therapeutic group activities.

  • Experience in providing comprehensive case management and treatment planning.

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or American Sign Language).

  • Experience with or membership within with the trans or gender non-binary community.

Computer and Technology Skill Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Google Suite application, Microsoft Office applications, and other computer programs.

Pay: $38,000 - $40,000, based upon level of experience and licensure
