Community Education Program: As the only organization
serving sexual minority youth in central Texas, Out Youth is frequently
asked to provide training and education to businesses, universities,
high schools, religious organizations, and community based organizations.
Trainings are presented by the Advocacy, Training and Counseling
(ACT) Program Manager and The Youth Development Program Manager.
In addition, youth often participate in workshops and speak on panels.
Out Youth has developed training materials and brochures, a web
site, and a video to educate the community at large on issues faced
by sexual minority youth. In the past year, trainings and presentations
have been made to Austin Independent School District Counselors,
Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Communities in Schools, LifeWorks, PFLAG
(Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays), SafePlace, The University
of Texas School of Social Work, Texas Network of Youth Services,
Southwest Texas State University Counseling Program, St. Edwards
University, Temple Beth Israel, Texas Runaway Hotline, and University
Baptist Church.
